Losing Weight After Pregnancy Begins During Pregnancy

How many expectant mothers are concerned by how difficult losing weight after pregnancy is likely to be? An overwhelming amount of mothers around the globe share this troubling reality. Yet for some women the weight seems to fall off, while others struggle for years before giving up on those last few pounds.

What is the difference? As comforting as it might be to blame a bummer lot of DNA as the root cause of difficulty losing weight after pregnancy, it isn’t the only culprit. Genetics can only account for so much of the disparity. Any woman, with any body type and metabolism speed can get back to pre-pregnancy size or smaller if they do the work.

It might not be a popular statement, but it remains true that what happens with exercise habits and proper diet during pregnancy greatly influences the shedding of pounds in postpartum life. The place to begin planning for getting back to a small waistline after baby comes is while that bundle of joy is still kicking inside.

Proper diet during pregnancy

It is universally known that good nutrition during pregnancy affects the well being of both mother and child. Yet a more motivating factor to actually consume a proper diet during pregnancy might be pointing out the link between good nutrition and a speedy return to a bathing suit body once baby arrives.

Accountability is needed to motivate healthy eating. To this end, use of a simple daily diet chart can be invaluable. A daily diet chart does not need to be complicated. It can consist of a record of everything mom eats. This will help pregnant women identify which food groups are being neglected, danger times for unhealthy eating choices and how to fuel her body more healthfully.

Exercise and Pregnancy

Dieting during pregnancy is not recommended, nor is it the time to begin a hard-core exercise routine. A good rule of thumb is that activities enjoyed prior to conception can continue as long as they don’t become overly taxing. As the baby grows and body shape changes, long runs, strenuous weight lifting and other heavy or jarring exercises are usually curtailed or modified.

On the other hand, if pre-pregnancy exercise consisted of walking to find the remote or get a snack during commercials, then care should be taken to begin a low impact exercise routine.

Keeping muscles active and strong will elevate any need or desire for dieting during pregnancy. The maintenance of lean muscle mass also contributes to the ease of weight loss once the pregnancy has ended.
